EL JADIDA
![]() |
.... | Two
hours and half by plane from Paris, El Jadida is an ideal city in Morocco
to spend a few days relaxing and enjoying the moderate climate and sun throughout
the year. It has 25 km of fine sandy beach on the Atlantic Ocean and is ideally located 100 km south of Casablanca, 200 km from Marrakech and 250 km from Essaouira. |
Swimming, sailing,
windsurfing, fishing, horseback riding, eating inexpensive, fresh seafood, and
then visiting the Hamman are activities that are sure to please.
Why I return year after year:
Having traveled and visited all the famous Moroccan cities, I find in this city
more charm and authenticity, a relaxed city which has not forsaken ancient practices
or traditions just to please the crush of tourists. Here, visitors are not seen
merely as tourists but as potential friends. People here are simple, accessible,
open and extremely hospitable. One of the best ways to approach them is to be
genuine, even joking with them whether it is a man in the street or even a police
officer. Soon they may become friends for life!
You will discover a city of contrasts. Peasants seem to have come straight out of the Middle Ages, riding on a donkey-cart, side by side with luxurious automobiles from around the world. Within a few kilometers, there are villages inland or on the ocean front where life is even more laid back. Perhaps that's why many French or Spaniard pensioners choose to retire here and to live contentedly.
The miles of pristine beaches, dotted
here and there with restaurants in all price ranges, comfortable year round
with the ocean front microclimate which keeps winters comfortable and summers
refreshing keep me returning year after year. For those interested in staying
a while, there are several Western style supermarkets, liquor stores, and the
pier at the Port where fresh catch of the day can be bought or watch them being
auctioned. Fresh vegetables and fruits are plentiful and very inexpensive in
the souk or in neighborhoods throughout the city.
I invite you to come discover for yourself the beauty and the noble soul of
these places.
